A real basket case. The shutter was seized. Somebody had tried to take apart the camera, could not do it and left inside all the bits and pieces. It looked like an oversized rattle for my baby.

The shutter was seized and the winding mechanism did not work.

I opened the top of the camera and pieces started to fall from the camera. I tried to find information about repairing this camera and could not find information about the shutter, a Prontor 250S or the camera a Contina. I could find information about the ContinaI, the ContinaII and the F model, but not the Contina. Same for the shutter, tons of information about the SVR and the 500, but the 250 is nowhere on the web.

Top cover removed

Some pieces found inside. Screws, a spring and a piece from the crank lever

The lever in place. This lever is the clutch og the winding lever.

Using some common sense and lots of patience, little by little I found where the bits and pieces should go. The most complicated part was the shutter, since some resorts were missing and I had to figure out how to put them back. Trial and error, and a week time of work finally gave a working shutter.

Tool to unscrew the shutter

The shutter removed

Diaphragm grip and mounting rings

Front lens removed

Speed ring removed

Springs on wrong position

Shuter blades repositioned

Finished shutter

New spring

The return spring of the winding lever was broken. I did one with a stretched spring from an old Xerox Copier.

I have to figure out how to focus this camera since the negative area is very small. I’ll try.
