The camera was working fine, only the “cosmetics” were not right. The external paint is a grainy black that is very difficult to match and was in good condition.
The screw that holds the winding knob was completly seized and I had to grind it.
The top cover was once chromed. Most of the chrome was rusted. I wanted to re-chrome this piece and asked advice to Mr Negro, my chemistry teacher on my last year of school since I remembered that on the laboratory we once coated a bronze coin with some kind of silvery metal. That “silvery metal”, after consultation ended up being a mercury derivate, toxic and volatile. Since I was not going to spend my money in such a camera, I polished the metal and lots of chrome showed back. The result is not pristine, but is good enough.
I disassembled the shutter, cleaned the lenses and put the whole thing together. I painted the lens rim to avoid reflects while taking pictures.
The result. I slightly oiled all the surface of the camera to
give a better look and protect the metallic parts.
